Dealing with criticism

People ask for criticism, but in reality, they only want praise. Honest criticism is hard to take, be it from a relative, a friend, an acquaintance or a stranger. How much easy it is to be critical of others! And how difficult we find to praise others! We are generally so generous while criticizing but act so miserly while showering compliments.

Why is it so hard to deal with criticism? Mainly because we all have that deep-rooted urge of being accepted. Criticism can come from any source and deeply impact us but only if we allow it to. First reflect on the criticism and see if it it’s positive criticism, given in the right spirit. If yes, then you should be thankful to the person for handing it out to you and do whatever it takes to rectify things. If no, then completely disregard it.

Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain- and most fools do! Nobody is perfect in this world. We all have our share of virtues and vices. Instead of looking for faults in others, find faults with yourself. Have patience with all the things but chiefly, have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your imperfections but instantly set about remedying them.

Don’t let the negative criticism disturb your peace of mind. When we are letting criticism negatively affect us then we are no more than a puppet in the hands of the critic. Criticism only becomes a problem in our life if we allow it to be. Don’t become a victim of others’ opinions because opinions keep changing.

Nothing worthwhile would ever have been accomplished in this world if too much importance was given to the critics. Any new idea has always faced criticism but the winners have always been too focused on progress rather than being unduly affected by criticism. Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you will be criticized anyway. You will be damned if you do and damned if you don’t!

    1. Honest and constructive criticism should always be welcome as it paves way for our growth. However people are not always honest while criticising others. We should be judicious enough to differentiate.
