Slow down

Busyness rules our lives. Everyone is in the rat race of money, success and power. People are engrossed in their busy lives and toiling hard to get ahead of others. In the constant endeavor to achieve status and material possessions, we have become human robots who are blindly running to reach the end without realizing that this rat race is never ending.

Technology has made our lives easier but at the same time, it is responsible for making our lives more complex. The spare time in hand is used to do more & more things and as a result, our lives have become more hectic and fast-paced. Even when there is nothing to do, we are glued to our smartphones checking emails or tweeting or posting Facebook updates.
We are rushing through life and in the process, we have forgotten to enjoy the simple things around us. Gone are the days of the leisurely conversations with friends over a cup of coffee! Now conversations happen through Facebook or Twitter or Whatsapp. Friendships happen in the cyberspace and we have more virtual friends than real friends. Instead of appreciating the glories of nature, we get busy in clicking pictures through our smartphones. The new concept of multi tasking means that we are unable to focus on the task in hand.
There is more to life than increasing its speed. For fast-acting relief, try slowing down. The famous Welsh poet W.H. Davies has beautifully stated in his famous poem ‘Leisure’:
“What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?”
Slow down and not just rush through life but enjoy each and every moment of it. Take time to enjoy whatever you do- whether sipping your morning coffee, driving to work, playing with your kids, being in nature or working.
Slowing down is a conscious action. You need to be mindful and in the present moment. Slow down for a contented and happier life.
