It was in May 2008 when I did Sudarshan Kriya for the first time during my first Art of Living Basic Course (Now called the Happiness Program). Sudarshan Kriya is a rhythmic breathing technique which eliminates stress, fatigue and negative emotions like anger and anxiety and helps in reconnecting with one’s true self. It was my first brush with spirituality. I still vividly remember my first meditation experience. How peaceful and calm I felt!
It was just the start of my spiritual journey. From a student to a volunteer to becoming a teacher at Art of Living- I came a long way. Another life changing experience was when I went to ISKCON temple for the first time. I fell in love with the deities in the temple, some instant connection was formed and I felt so much at peace. I am a regular at ISKCON now and chant 16 rounds of Hare Krishna Mahamantra daily. My spiritual quest is still on but I feel blessed to be on the path.
This poem expresses my experience with Sudarshan Kriya. If you have done an Art of Living course and experienced Sudarshan Kriya then you will understand what it means. And if you haven’t done it then you must enroll at the happiness program happening in your city and experience the bliss!
Who am I? What is my identity?
A wife, a daughter or a mother?
Who am I? Is it written in my destiny?
It made me ponder and I kept seeking further.
I looked for answers in the scriptures.
I took refuge in occult sciences to predict my future.
Searching and wandering for answers like a sincere seeker
Nobody had the answers and my hopes became weaker.
Who am I? The question kept haunting.
The answer was revealed amidst the chanting.
‘So Hum So Hum’- The words echoed in my ears.
‘I am that!’- Nothing more to seek, nothing more to fear.
