Book Review: 99+1 Ways To Prevent Coronavirus

Author Vikrant Kapoor | Genre Non-fiction

As the name suggests, the book is a complete guide on coronavirus- from its causes, modes of transmission to ways of prevention. I was a bit apprehensive when the author approached me for the book review. But the author assured me that the book is backed by scientific research and data. The author Vikrant Kapoor is an educationist and heads one of the most successful chains of pre-schools in Punjab. He is also a successful entrepreneur and has been a part of the healthcare industry. During the pandemic, he launched India’s first exclusive showroom with products related to Coronavirus.

The pandemic took the world by storm in 2020. Covid-19 is a highly contagious disease caused by coronavirus. The first case was identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019.  Since then, the disease has spread worldwide leading to an ongoing pandemic. Now a vaccination is available but it is still not accessible to the masses. Till then, prevention is the only way to stay safe from coronavirus.

This book helps us to understand more about the prevention of coronavirus. It lists methods that we can use to safeguard our offices, our homes, our families and ourselves. The book begins with a brief introduction of coronavirus, its modes of transmission and the time coronavirus stays active on different surfaces. After that, the book lists a hundred ways of staying safe from the disease. This includes the different kinds of masks, face shields, fumigation techniques, sanitisers, gloves, disinfectants and much more.

The section on the various foods which help in strengthening the immune system was of particular interest to me. I wish the author had explained all these herbs and foods in a bit more detailed manner. The last few pages of the book are dedicated to vaccines. At the time of the publication of the book, no vaccine had come out. So this section basically talks about the different kinds of vaccines that were being developed by the scientists according to different researches and were in clinical development or pre-clinical development stages.

By this time, we have read so much about coronavirus that most of us know about the major ways to stay safe during this pandemic. But still, the book has some new information which I didn’t know about. The book reads more like a product catalogue. I wish the author had dedicated more space to the history of the disease and included some stats and researches on the topic instead of just talking about different products or ways to prevent the disease. My other complaint is the frequent spelling & grammatical errors in the book which as a reader, I found quite annoying. A better proofreading would have taken care of this.

The book is written in simple language so that even a layman can understand it. It is a quick read and you can easily finish reading it in an hour or two. You can pick it up if you want an in-depth knowledge of the various products that can help you in staying safe during this pandemic.

My Rating: 3/5

P.S. I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
