Letting go

We pin our happiness to people, circumstances and things and hold onto them for dear life. We become attached to the things that remind us of our past and our loved ones. We become attached to the good memories as well as painful memories. We hold on to anger and bitterness of the past and we cling to the worries about the future.

Holding on is being brave, but letting go and moving on is often what makes us stronger and happier. Though it may sound simple but listen to Jeremy Aldana’s advice, “Pain will leave you, when you let go.”

Letting go is the biggest hurdle in the process of decluttering your life. Holding on to stuff, people and thoughts weighs us mentally and emotionally. Letting go is freeing yourself. Letting go can lead you down the path of healing and peace.

Letting go can be as simple as recycling or giving away old clothing. It can be as radical as leaving a long-standing marriage or friendship and changing one’s entire lifestyle. Whichever it is, it is always going to be somewhat painful.

If you want to get rid of an item or a relationship but the only reason you are holding on to it is for sentimental reasons then perhaps it’s time to get rid of it, perhaps it is time to let go.

Learn to let go of the past, attitudes, emotions, things, friends and other “baggage” that are holding one back. Approach each area of your life when it comes to letting go and revel in what unfolds. You must let go to make room for the more wonderful things to come.

Just remember the words of H.H. Sri Sri Ravishankar ji, “Life teaches you the art of letting go in every event. When you have learnt to let go, you will be joyful and as you start being joyful, more will be given to you.”
